Not so long ago, the area teemed with animals such as beaver, black bear, and wild cats. These animals have long since been gone from Staten Island, but many other animals have remained and even thrived in the area since humans built up large developments.
Raccoons are a common sighting around Staten Island. They become adjusted to humans quite quickly. They are known for their bold nature, rummaging through garbage cans, stealing pet food, and ripping through siding, fascia, and roofing just to gain access to attics, crawlspaces and wall spaces. These are perfect dens for them. Discovering raccoons in and around your property can spell disaster if you fail to take action.
